The Manipal Foundation is registered as a charitable trust and the Commissioner of Income Tax has granted recognition to it. Donations made to the foundation are exempt under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising eminent persons from the field of Education, Health and Industry.
The current trustees are:

Dr. H S Ballal - Pro Chancellor, Manipal University
Dr. K Ramnarayan – Vice Chancellor, Manipal University
A decision was taken to enlarge and broaden the activities of the Foundation and to brand Manipal Foundation as a caring and enlightened arm of the Manipal Group and use this as a vehicle/medium to project the group in the future. To achieve this goal it was agreed to position a senior professional to head the Foundation as CEO, located at Bangalore and reporting to the Board of Trustees. Accordingly, a suitable professional with a very good family, educational and professional background- Mr. P.Balachandran Warrier, was appointed the CEO with effect from 1st June,2007.
